Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1950 Chrysler 2dr Windsor, master mechanic, scarebird

Question
This car is all original I plan to convert the front brakes to disc , Scarebird may have a kit .
Question : I can't get into reverse . Its not an external link prob. Previous owner said there is a worn pin inside the tran . I can see that someone was in the trans reciently (clean side panel) . I'm new to restoration this is my 1ts .A project for my son & I . Is removing and sending out the way to fix ? Local mechanics are willing to look but I fear a 1950 3 speed manual will be beyond them . Any suggestions ? All help appreciated .

Answer
My question to you is, how many thumbs do you have? that relates to the phase "I can't do that, I am all thumbs". Now using that as a base if you have ten thumbs then you are not to touch anything on the car save the ignition key. If you only have two thumbs then you are a master mechanic. Now if you are in the four thumb rang I would not hesitate to pull the transmission apart once you have purchased an original factory service manual for the car. Not a Motors or Chilton, but the original manual. There are several manual dealers on line and the one that I use the most is www.books4cars.com. Then following the instructions, have at it. If you are above the four thumb level then sending it out and paying the money is the way to go. Good luck.
