Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1951 Chevy Heater Core Bypass, antifreeze leak, chevy car

Question
I have a 1951 chevy car (Styleline Special)equipped with the original 216 cubic inch engine. I am having a problem with an antifreeze leak inside the car, under the dash, passenger side. I suspect it has something to do with the heater core leaking. In order for me to check out the leak, what is the best way to bypass the heater core temporarily so that I can troubleshoot the problem. There are two heater hoses, one red and one black entering the firewall at the point where I believe the heater core is located.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Answer
Remove both hoses from heater core. Then remove one hose completely and then attach the end of the other where you removed the first. This makes a complete loop of water bypassing the core. Be aware this reduces your cooling capacity and should not drive like this long term. If you need to leave the core bypassed then completely plug both hoses.
