Classic/Antique Car Repair: 37 Olds Stalling, flathead engine, fuel pump

Question
I have a 37 Olds all rebuilt original. Six cylinder flathead engine. It idles fine but when I drive sometimes it will act like it's running out of gas and stall. Let it set a minute and usually it will start and run again. Thought maybe battery was discharging but had 6.4 volts at the battery. Possible fuel or carb problem. I could really use some suggestions, would like to drive car without it dying. Thank you, Charles

Answer
Sounds like the fuel pump is getting weak. Unlike what most people think a fuel pump is not an all or nothing proposition. It can start out strong and fade as you go down the road. Given just the info you have shared, that would be my thoughts.

Also, disconnect and check for good flow from tank. Some of those old ones had a tar build up that would eventually block the line out.
