Classic/Antique Car Repair: 79 Corvette Steering wheel, phillips head screws, colume

Question
Brad,
I'am replacing my steering wheel (telescopic tilt). Needs new leather !  How do I go about removing the wheel from the colume? Do I need to take off the small emblem in the middle of the horn or is it all one piece belonging to the center horn? If so how do I remove the horn?
Thanks Carl

Answer
Been a while since I worked on one of these. Check the underside of the steering wheel. It is common to attach the horn pad with a couple of Phillips head screws from the underside. Then the nut that holds the wheel on will be right there. Take off the nut and the washer and use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel. If the horn pad is not held on with the screws from the back side then disconnect the horns, push down on the pad, and twist counter clockwise to release it.
