Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1950 Ford F-1 door hinges, oversized pins, plasma torch

Question
QUESTION: I am working on a 50 F-1 and when the truck returned from the painter, the passenger door was not aligned correctly.  I am told that either the hinge is bent or the pin is worn. There is play in the pin when the door is lifted.  I am working on finding some used hinges. How would I go about replacing the hinge? or service the existing one on the truck?  I can find oversized pins?

Also the hinges are attached to the door with rivets.  Getting the hinge off is a lot of work.  Any suggestions on how to reattach it with enough clearance if I use bolts instead of rivets.

ANSWER: RObert;
Hi-I see no reason why you can not remove the hinge and take it to a machine shop and have them put a over size pin into it.

QUESTION: What about the rivets.  How to replace them with nuts and bolts without hitting the inner doors.  How would you remove the rivets without grinding the good metal of the door??

Answer
Robert-wow you have rivets, there are no bolts to remove ? or screws ? can you remove the whole door ?
does the striker plate come off with screws or bolts.?  you could have the bolts removed with a plasma torch or a good air grinder. with not much of a mess to the hinge. but can you get bolts back into it and start them in the back side. with a torch you could do all of that stuff, remove the hinges and re weld a new plate back on in place. you can even get a new hinge set up and cut the hinge off than weld on the new ones. thats the best way I can think of.
