Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1966 Plymouth fuel problems, fuel problems, fuel pump

Question
I recently had some fuel problems with my Plymouth. I thought it was the fuel pump because gas was going into the pump but nothing was comming out. I have a glass fuel filter so I can see if gas is comming in. I bought a fuel pump and replaced it with little to no problem. Now the car still doesn't start. It turns over but that is it and still no fuel going to the carb. I just really do not have the money for a mechanic so I am trying to take care of this myself. Any suggestions?

Answer
What engine is in your Plymouth?  If it is a V8, then the push rod that operates the fuel pump may not be pushing the fuel pump arm.

When you replaced the fuel pump, did you happen to notice the rod coming down from above that presses on the fuel pump arm? This usually fights you as you try to install the pump, and you may have gotten things installed wrong.

It is really tricky to change a fuel pump if you aren't aware of what's going on in there.

If you don't have a V8, then there are other things we need to check on.  Rather than my sitting here typing for an hour, let's start with your telling me what engine your car has, and also tell me how you know there is gas getting to the pump?

Post a follow-up question and we'll take it from there.
