Ford Repair: 1995 Ford Ranger with AC Compressor Problem, ac compressor, horrible sound

Question
I have a 1995 Ford Ranger, and when I start the car and Idle, all is well. But
when the cabin air is set to AC, MAX AC, Head/foot, Defrost/foot, Head/foot.
The AC compressor seems to not engage, causing a horrible sound, and
making the rubber belt slide over the AC compressor pulley and heat up
smelling like rubber. I know there is a clutch in the AC compressor, and I am
assuming it is what is out. The air to "head" and "foot" (each only one
operation, not the combo) work just fine. What do you think is wrong, and
(being a college student low on funds) can I let this problem just slide for a
while, not using any of those functions? Thanks!

Answer
don't use your a/c funticons at all it's not the clutch its the compressor-the clutch only turns the inside of the compressor and if it is causing belt to slide then clutch is gripping enough but compressor is to hard to turn i would have compressor or low pressure switch unplugged then you can use all functions on control head you just won't have a/c
