Ford Repair: 2004 Ford T-Bird, V8, Error code on dashboard, trouble code, rror

Question
2004 Ford T-Bird, V8, Error code on dashboard.  After an hour of highway driving, my wife and I stopped for lunch. After lunch we attempted to start the car. The engine would turn over, like normal, but the engine would not start, like it had no spark. We tried several more times, same result: no start. After about a minute of this, the car started, like normal, and on the electronic dashboard was a large character E, along with the other normal dash info (mileage, trip, ...). As we were not close to home, we continued on down the interstate, then a large P character appeared replacing the E. Other than that one non-start our car engine has started dozens of times since, with no problem, but the P or E character keeps appearing. What is the E and P telling us? Thanks for your help.

Answer
I don't have the answer to the E or P? However, I can tell you how to diagnose your problem for free. There is a 99% chance that you have a stored code. Take the car to your local parts store, have them run a "free" diagnostic scan. It should give you at least one code starting with a P. The parts guys can tell you what the code means, or, I can tell you. Just get me that trouble code, and we can go from there. If I had to guess, which I hate doing, I would say that the system is telling you that you have an "E"rror in the "P"owertrain.
