Ford Repair: Speed Control, plastic assembly, steering wheel

Question
Dennis, Yes! The air bag light flashes when you are driving the truck. Is the clockspring something easily fixed, or should I take it to the Dealer.
Thanks, Brad

I have a 94 Ford F150, I just noticed the speed control and the horn do not work. I look in the book and saw that they share a fuse, but the fuse was not bad. I changed it anyway just to be safe.
Do you know anything else that could cause this problem.
Thanks, Brad

The clockspring behind the steering wheel probably has some broken circuits. I wouldn't be surprised if your air bag light is on.

Answer
If you are able, count the flashes of the air bag light. If it is something like 32, then the clockspring is bad. To replace it first DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. When dealing with anything in the air bag system you don't want any surprises. Remove the steering wheel and the column trim, the clockspring is a round plastic assembly uinder the steering wheel. There are two or three connectors to disconnect and either tthree screws or three small tabs that hold the clockspring, then remove it. Be sure the steering wheel is straight before you start this, when you install the new clockspring it is locked in place. After installing it and securing, then you can remove the locking mechanism. If you remove this lock before the clockspring in is place it will unwind and then it will be useless. Most have the words TOP on them.

Reassemble the wheel and then hook up the battery.
