Ford Repair: 1982 Ford Bronco Completely Quit, ford bronco, altenator

Question
Dennis,

I have a 1982 Ford Bronco configured for mud racing. Last night I was sitting in line waiting to stage for the race and the car just quit. Engine, lights, everything just died. I put the car in park, restarted the engine and it ran fine until I approached the start line and the car completely shut off again. I restarted the engine, staged, and started the race. Five seconds into the race the car shut off again but restarted a few seconds later. The strange thing is when the engine quits all of the lights go off to. It's like someone pulled the battery cable and shut off the altenator. After the race I shut the car off for 10-15 minutes, restarted it and ran down the race track. The car ran fine and ran normal while putting the vehicle back on the trailer. When the car quit it didin't sputter or anything it just died instantly. Your thoughts?

Answer
If you lost lights and all electrical power, you should be looking into the battery, wiring, connections. How modified is the ignition and electrical system? Are you set up for racing only or is ti driven on street? Without knowing the systems you are using I can offer nothing else.
