Ford Repair: Ford Explorer check engine light, obd system, obd ii

Question
Hi, I have a 1994 Ford Explorer and the check engine light comes on intermittently but I don't feel any change in the driving, the ABS brake light also comes on and I don't feel any changes in my brakes. Would disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cause the lights to go away?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
It depends on the type of electronic computer system that is in the vehicle....EEC IV or OBD II.....With the EEC system disconnecting the battery WILL clear the codes and shut off the check engine light. With the OBD system, it will not.
What I would suggest is that you bring it to a garage and have them find out why the lights are coming on.
Hope this helps,
Erik
