Ford Repair: bad gas or worse problem, blown head gasket, washboard road

Question
I have a 2002 Windstar SE w/v-6 and auto-trans.i got gas yesterday and about 5 to 10 minutes after pumping it the van started to shutter like going over a washboard road ,then the check engine lite started flashing and i knew it wasn't the road i pulled into the next gas station ,i bought and put in 2 pints of fuel injector cleaner and anti-freeze i also took off the positive battery cable to reboot the computer it is still running like it's missing on a cylinder or two .also , i hear a ticking sound and it gets louder as you speed up the engine the idle is erratic and the battery lite started flashing this morning. the van has 80,805 miles on it and of course i purchased an extended warrenty for 80,000 .i have a good deal of mechanical aptitude as i had 2years of automotive and diesel training in the early 80's i worked in a few dealerships but decided to drive instead .the cars nowadays are much more complicated then they used to be my hat is off to the technicians of today . thanks for being there ! Tom

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
If the Engine is low on coolant and also skipping at the same time, I would say you're looking at a head gasket job. Also, disconnecting the battery won't do a thing, since the vehicle is a 2002, it is OBD II and stores the codes, no matter what.
I would loosen the radiator cap and start it, IF there is air bubbles in the radiator, you have a blown head gasket and it need to go to a shop.
Other then this, I really can't guide you much more, unless the vehicle is in front of me.
Hope this helps,
Erik
