Ford Repair: 96 Explorer Thumping Noise, radius arm bushings, radius arm

Question
I have a 96 4-DR XLT Explorer V6.  Starting yesterday there has been a loud banging/thumping noise coming from underneath the front end of the car (it seems like it is coming from the driver side, but I'm not sure) when riding over bumps/cracks.  I can feel the banging in my feet on the floorboard.  It seems to happen at all speeds, but more at higher speeds and when the wheel is slightly turned.  Yesterday the noise was continuous.  Today it was intermitant and almost non existant.

There hasn't been any major repair on the car.  Can I continue to drive under this condition for a few days until I get a chance to fix the problem?

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question, I'll try to help......
I really can't say if it's "safe" or not, with out looking at it. If I were you, I would have it fixed ASAP.
From what you have discribed, it sound like one of several things can be wrong.
One is that the radius arm bushings (if it has them)have gone bad.
Another thing is that the upper and lower control arms have been know to go bad on these vehicles.
Yet another thing, could be a front wheel bearing.
All of these need to be taken in for repair as soon as possible.
I hope this help, let me know if there is any thing more I can do for you,
Erik
