1995 Ford Bronco (fullsize) 115K miles 4x4 351 5.8L Automatic

I just bought this vehicle a few months ago. I don't know how the prev. owner treated it. I notice two problems.
1. The transmission shifts too soon on all gears. Sometimes it is on 3rd gear at 20mph. I'm at overdrive at 40mph. The passing gear (kickdown) does not engage at top speeds...
2. When 3rd or Overdrive engage, I hear a studder (similar to the noise of a textured road on the shoulder).
I added Sea Foam to the transmission hoping the problems would go away. No luck with Sea Foam.

It is nothing like my first 95 Bronco.

Gil:

Are the tires on the Bronco stock size?

Patrick

Everything is stock.
On my first Bronco, I had different sizes throughout the years and never had the studder problem.

Thanks
Gil

Answer
Gil:

With stock sized tires on the vehicle odds are that there are internal transmission problems or speed sensor problems.  Could be anything from a valvebody concern or up.  I'd suggest having it diagnosed by a professional transmission technician.
