Honda Repair: is it worth it?, spinning the wheel, rear cylinder

hi. i have a 1987 honda civic, the gl semiautomatic. the left rear brake cylinder broke, and a friend replaced it..brakes worked for a week or so, but then it popped the cylinder again, tried one more time. why is it doing this? he replaced spring set on the second go.how much would this cost to repair? could  u give me some ideas on what this could be and how bad it is? thx so much

I would make sure that the shoes are correctly adjusted.  YOu should have a slight drag when spinning the wheel.  If they are, you may have gotten a bad cylinder.  Does the car brake straight?  If it does, then the system is probably working correctly.  Also make sure that you can push the rear cylinder back in by hand when it is properly bleed.  Make sure that the brake hose isn't bad causing the pressure in the cylinder to not release.
