Honda Repair: 1987 honda accord lxi power steering hose replacement, honda accord lxi, valve cover gasket

Question
Hello,

I have a 1987 Honda Accord LXI, 4 door, automatic that has developed a small hole in the high pressure power steering hose that goes across the top of the motor compartment before it descends down to the rack and pinion system.

The leak is in the hose on the area where the bracket on the valve cover gasket holds the hose in place.

I can see where the hose obviously connects to the pump on top and the R&P on the bottom; but what I can't see (I can feel it and partially see it though) is where the hose appears to be mounted to the unibody cross member that goes over the top of the rack and pinion assembly with 2 grommets/bushings that are held in place with what I am guessing to be 10mm(?) bolts.

Can you give me any advice on what tools/procedures I will need to get this job done?

Thanks,

Dan

Answer
Dan,
This hose snakes around the motor and is not really that difficult to replace. You can get the 2 10mm bolts from underneath the car. I use a 10mm 1/4 inch socket and a swivel 1/4 inch ratchet. (swivel head) You need to remove several other compentnts also to get the hose out. I can't remember exactly what needs to be removed, but you can figure it out by just doing the job. You should use a flare nut wrench for the hose connection at the rack so you don't strip it.
Good luck.
This is a messy job so have plenty of rags handy.
Thanks
