Hyundai Repair: 04 Hyundia XG350, wild goose chase, blown fuses

Question
I have a 04 Hyundia xg350

there is a sensor or relay clicking on when the car is shutt off . when this clicks on it also makes the trunk light, battery light, doorlight come on.remember this vehicle is shut off. the clicking feels like it is a sensor in the transmission. this will keep doing this till it runs the battery down. Can you tell me what to check into.

Answer
If you're actually hearing this clicking noise, you can attempt to follow it to find the source, but this may be a wild goose chase, so to speak.  Even if you find the relay-- it won't be a sensor; sensors cannot turn themselves on and off-- it may well be activated/deactivated by some other malfunction.

My first recommendation is to check all the fuses in both the in-car and underhood.  Some of the computerized items on the car, if the are partially powered, will cause abnormal things to happen.  Replace any blown fuses.  Also check the short connector in the dash fuse box.  This is a black (I believe) small connector that will energize certain circuits if installed properly, and leave them open if upside down.  Its presence is to serve as a means of de-energizing certain circuits so they won't drain the battery charge if the vehicle is stored for a long period of time.

Once you're certain all the fuses and short connector are okay and properly installed, if the condition continues, I'd recommend checking the ignition switch.  Potentially, the ignition switch is defective, leaving numerous circuits powered that shouldn't be.

Lastly, if there are electrical/electronic devices that have been added to the car, it's possible one of these devices had malfunctioned or is installed improperly, creating a bridge between the power supply for items that are always powered and some of those that are only powered when the ignition is on.
