Hyundai Repair: driverside window, window glass, millimeter

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I bought a 1995 lantra 1.6 gls it's the 1995 model and not the 1996.
the driverside window has been taped up otherwise it will fall down.
i've taken the doorpanel off on the inside and found so far out that the window motor sort of works (makes noise) and the cable moves about 1 millimeter , so is somehow stuck .. i have no idea how to get the mechanism out as the holes in the door are tiny , any advice for me ? thx alot ;)

ANSWER: It sounds like the cable has come loose from the upper or lower end of the regulator and has tangled itself in the spool.  If that's the case you'll need a new regulator.

Plan on removing through the hole in the bottom of the door.  The regulator and motor will come out as a unit.  Remove as follows:

-- Unbolt the window glass from the regulator.
-- Remove the window glass or attach a device to hold it all the way up in the door.
-- Remove the bolts/nuts holding the regulator in place.  (Memory is poor, but I believe it's three at the motor, two at the top of the regulator, and two at the bottom of the regulator.)
-- Unplug the motor and remove the assembly through the hole at the bottom of the door.

QUESTION: hi again,
I did take the regulator and the motor out.
the cable was in 1 piece and after reconnecting it outside the door frame it did go down electric, but not up .. I greased the cables and the gliding parts , but still not going up ..
i have a feeling it's in the motor, do you think this would be repairable .. or is it a replacing job ?

ANSWER: You won't be able to repair the motor, so if there's an issue there, it'll need to be replaced.

I have a couple more questions, though.
-- Are you indicating that the cable hadn't come loose from any portion of the regulator?
-- Can you hear/observe the motor run in both up and down directions even though there's movement in only one of them?

QUESTION: the cable is attached to the reel , no excess movement .. looks all normal there. i can hear the motor run in both directions.

Answer
In that case I'm going to say that my original diagnosis was incorrect and that you need a motor-- the gear inside the motor is apparently stripped.  The regulator cable is the most common failure, but I had forgotten I'd seen this happen on a car or two of your vintage-- it's been over ten years since I've seen this failure.  The fact that the motor runs indicates that the system is working properly electrically.

Purchase a new motor, install on the regulator, and reinstall the assembly in the door.
