Hyundai Repair: ball joints on 02 santa fe, ring pliers, sized socket

Question
What is the procedure for changing ball joint on an '02 santa fe?  Is this something I can do or should a repair shop do this??  I know it has to be re-aligned when complete.

Answer
If you feel comfortable removing the lower control arm and have snap ring pliers, you should be able to do this.

Once you've removed the control arm, pry the boot off the ball joint and remove the retaining clip.  Then hammer-- use a big hammer) the old ball joint out of the control arm.  Next, supporting the control arm, place an appropriately sized socket to that will fit over the end of the ball joint and contact the outer circumference over the ball joint and use the hammer to install the new ball joint in the control arm.  Install a new retaining clip and boot and reinstall the control arm.
