Hyundai Repair: moldy evaporator, warranty assistance, drain hose

Question
QUESTION: I have a bad odor from the ac on a 2006 elantra. frigi fresh spray didnt work by
itself. I ordered frigi clean foam but am looking for instructions on where to
locate the evaporator case to drill into to spray the foam and to be sure the
drain hose is unclogged. any pointers?
ANSWER: The drain hose is located in the front of the floor, almost at the firewall, just right of center.  Rather than drilling into the case, I'd recommend just spraying up into the drain hose, if you can get it to work.  If the shape of the hose makes it difficult to get the foam in, you can pull the passenger side carpet back and remove the drain hose from the heater box and try to spray into the case at that point.

The largest reason I don't recommend drilling is that it's too easy to accidentally puncture the evaporator or heater core.

QUESTION: thanks that really helped, I removed a plastic panel and found the hose
sprayed some foam in and let it flush out, I did that twice, still plenty left in
the can. I just wonder if that was enough. I big muddle of foam came out with
plenty of water. Hope it works. Its a 2006 and no gunk came out but the
smell has been awful. Could there be another source of mold coming in the
a/c? I have read that this is an ongoing problem and it won't completely go
away. If it really doesnt work do you think it would be covered by warranty?

thanks again for the tip you saved me a headache trying to tap the evaporator
case!

Answer
It's not uncommon for moisture to collect in HVAC systems.  Even if you got all the nastiness out, it's possible it'll come back.  Growth of stuff in the system doesn't indicate any sort of defect, so I doubt you'd get any sort of warranty assistance.
