Hyundai Repair: fuel problem on a 1994 excell, fuel pressure gauge, hyundai excell

i own a 1994 hyundai excell 1.6 litre the car ran out of fuel, i tried starting it again and it ran for a bit then died again after that i put more fuel into the car hoping that for ti to start agian. it started and ran for about a second again and then died, i'm not to sure what the problem is wether it is that i've blocked a fuel line somewhere, that i've clogged the filter or hat i may have blown the fuel pump and i'm not sure if that all that could be wrong with it. how could i find out what the problem is and how can i fix it

Since this seems to have occurred in coincidence with running out of fuel, the first step should be to check your fuel pressure.  You'll need a fuel pressure gauge and adaptor to install it on top of the fuel filter.  This will help you determine whether the problem is indeed related to fuel delivery or simply a coincidence.

If you have low fuel pressure, replace the fuel pump.

If you have no fuel pressure, verify you're getting power to the fuel pump.  If so, replace the fuel pump.  If not, you'll need to diagnose the fuel pump circuit.
