Answer
P0444 indicates a problem that's purely electrical in nature.  First, check the purge control valve electrical connector and wiring that can be checked visually.  If the wires are broken, that's likely the cause of the trouble code.

If the visual inspection turns up no problems, check the resistance of the purge control valve itself.  The resistance should be 26 Ohms at 68 degrees F.  If it's significantly more than that, replace the purge control valve.

For the following, I selected a 2001 Accent.  Wire colors may vary for different years.  If you have different wire colors at your purge control vavle, please follow up with the year of your car.

If the purge control valve checks okay, check the power wire (pink/black).  With the ignition in the "on" position (engine not necessarily running), the you should have battery voltage in this wire.  If not, you'll need to locate the problem in the wire.  If you do have battery voltage, you'll next need to check the control wire (blue/orange) for continuity between the valve and the ECM.  If the wire does not have continuity, you'll need to find the break in the wire.
