the problem i'm facing is the car starts and runs. approximately 15-20 miles the car will shut down, stall.seems like it's getting no fuel. fuel pump is pumping fuel. any Ideas? the check engine light comes on. it will restart after a few trys. goes again, shuts down. each time it goes a shorter distance before shutting down. any suggestions? thanks dave

The symptoms you describe sound like the classic symptoms of a worn fuel pump causing low fuel pressure.  But it's also possible it could be a crank sensor issue.  My recommended diagnostic procedure depends on the answers to the following:

How did you verify the fuel pump was pumping fuel?
Does the check engine lamp stay on when the vehicle is restarted?

Answer
17 PSI is too low!  You should immediately suspect the fuel pump.  Normal pressure is about 40 to 45 PSI.

As for finding and replacing the crank sensor, I don't recommend that until you sort out the issue with your fuel pressure.  In any event, I'll need to know which engine you have in your Santa Fe to be able to tell you where the crank sensor is located.
