Hyundai Repair: sonata 2.4 L 2001, crankshaft pulley, belt pulley

Question
Hello
and thanks again for your reply
sorry i accidentally sent a message previous to this one, forgot to start typing .
I cant get the crankshaft belt pulley off to do the timing belt. Do i have to remove the center bolt to get the pulley off? i already took off the 4 smaller pulley bolts.
Also is it necessary to dissassemble the "belt b" from under the main timing belt? (It drives the countershaft)

Answer
Technically, you shouldn't have to remove the center 22mm bolt to get the crankshaft pulley off, but there is usually sufficient rust buildup to make it very difficult to get the pulley off the washer behind the bolt.

To remove the center bolt, you'll either need an impact wrench or you'll need to put something (screwdriver, for example) in the flywheel teeth to keep the engine from turning.

It's not necessary to replace the balance shaft belt when replacing the timing belt, but it's foolish to not do them both.  The lifespan of the balance shaft belt is similar to that of the main timing belt.  If it breaks, it can become lodged in the main belt and cause the main belt to jump, resulting in severe engine damage.
