Hyundai Repair: 88 excel GL was rough, now no-start, safe bet, random times

Question
I have a 1988 carb'd Excel, 1.5L auto. Had a problem of the car spitting and sputtering at random times( misfiring and feeling like it's running out of fuel).....so I changed the plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter and wires and it still randomly spits and would sputter,(almost as it running out of fuel ).Still happened so I changed the pick-up ( ignitor ) in the distributor, started it...ran a few times with the SAME spitting and sputtering ( really stalling now and tough to restart )so I limped it back home and parked it. Went to start it in the morning and NOTHING.....YES,has spark but NO fuel to carb, very little fuel in filter..will start if I pour some fuel into the carb but then dies !! Is it the FUEL PUMP ? I know these have feedback carbs and sensors but not sure if I should change the fuel pump or if I'm loking at changing some sort of control unit hidden? Hope you can help..it only has 32,000 miles on it. THANK YOU

Answer
If you've got no fuel to the carb, it's a pretty safe bet you're looking at a fuel pump.  Have a look at the fuel lines to make sure they're not damaged or leaking.  If not, replace the fuel pump.  You should also replace the plastic spacer between the head and pump when doing this.
