Isuzu Repair: new fuel pump??, isuzu rodeo, 1999 isuzu rodeo

Question
QUESTION: We installed a new fuel pump on my daughters 1999 Isuzu Rodeo.  It would start before it was replaced, but would stall out and hard starting. So it was suggested we replace the 160.00 dollar part, and now it wont even start. Any Suggestions???

ANSWER: Well Darlene. The fuel level sending unit was probably bad huh? On Ebay it costs about 40.00 dollars with shipping. Comes with all necessary parts and takes about 2 hours to install. The fuel pump however when uninstalled needs to be sealed correctly when reinstalled or hard-starting and hestitation will occur when driving. This is due to the tank not being pressurized properly and the Evap system gets a false reading. The o-ring is the main culprit. This must be properly sealed against the fuel tank. The reason for  your problems is most likely due to this being incorrectly done(no offense it happens all the time). The result though will be the fuel tank must be dropped again and the o-ring seated properly. Also when connecting all components on the fuel pump, make sure they are all snug and tight.

QUESTION: After we got the fuel pump on and it started, and now we drive it to test drive it before we get it back to our daughter, it cuts out and hesitates as it did before we were told to put the new fuel pump on it.. We also replaced the EGR Valve.  So now they tell us it Could be the Oxygen Sensor, which I believe are 4 of them. so before we purchase these which are about 50.00 a piece, any suggestions?  We spent 167.00 on the fuel pump, and 154.00 for the EGR Valve.. We have to get it dependable for our daughter.
Thank you for the information.

Answer
Well I would start by checking a main wiring harness ground, fuel filter EVAP system and if the O2 sensor's are bad the gas mileage would be horrible and the exaust would be all dark and sooty with unburned fuel. You are right there are four of them and they are not cheap!!  So whoever is telling you these things might be bad are really just guessing. Also there really is no such thing as "dependable" with a 99 Rodeo Darlene. These vehicles have left me stranded on the side of the road three times all at night in the middle of nowhere!!! My advice is to fix it and sell it ASAP. Isuzu has had so many lawsuits against them that they are actually leaving the U.S. for this reason. The main wiring harness ground has caused a major roll though in cutting out and dying just driving down the road.
