Isuzu Repair: Air Mass Flow Sensor or Ignition Coil on Rodeo Isuzu 1997 2 wd 3.2L, mass flow sensor, mass air flow sensor

Question
Hello Daniel,
I've brought a car to a mechanic since the car had an "Engine  Check" light on and a significant loss of power (e.g. in most cases 3d gear should take me uphill but I've got to down shift to 2 gear). Also idling is not stable and  it deviates in +- 200 rpm. After a while a can sense that the engine starts jerking in idling. Computer scan revealed MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor (P0101) but  previous owner of this car told me that this is exactly how the car was misbehaving once one of the coils was out. Long time ago when it happened (with previous owner) the car was scanned on computer which revealed the ignition coil malfunction.I disconnected AMF yesterday and noticed a difference in idling - it become +- 100 rpm and a car was still jerking.
The car has 208000 miles on it, timing belt was changed when it was 130000 miles on odometer.
I believe it is an ignition coil but could AMF malfunctioning  sensor contributed to the significant loss of power?
Thank You
Igor

Answer
Well yes Igor. Although your idling could be a vacuum problem. Have you had the intake gaskets or any vacuum hoses checked? Although your MAF could be bad due to the high mileage of your vehicle. You can get it checked at a dealership. The ignition coil could be burning up due to a high resistance factor in your wiring, or oil in the valve cover. I would also check your main wiring harness ground for any faults as well as these can become loose and cause all kinds of nonsense. This is a horrible problem with Rodeo's. I would check your fuel injectors as well as these have problems with the injector seal cracking and causing a faulty reading to the computer as well. If this didnt help though let me know and well go from here.
