Jeep Repair: P1494 - 01 JGC shuts off driving down the road, jeep grand cherokee, neutral safety switch

Question
My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee has started shutting down/turning off just driving down the road. I can put it into neutral and crank it back up, put it back in drive, and continue on my way. The check engine light was on but it isn't anymore. Sometimes it will start right up and get me to where I am going with no problems. When I go to leave, it just won't start. It tries. It's not the battery. There's no tick tick ticking when I try to start it. It's actually TRYING to start but just doesn't catch.
When we hooked it up to get this code (P1494) at Oriley's, we thought it was a piece that was in really bad shape and wasn't keeping a hose connected. Replacing that elbow looking piece did not help.  We replaced the fuel filter. Wondering if it could be my ignition switch...? I had a lot of keys on my keyring and it was heavy. I was told that the less you have on your keyring, the better because it can tear up the ignition...switch? cyl?
I've only had the jeep a few months. There was nothing wrong with it when I purchased it. It was well taken care of. But I don't imagine the gentleman I got it from carried a lot of things on the keyring either.
Does this problem sound like it's the ignition switch or cyl?

Answer
this is where u will need a tech that knows how cars work  he will need to have the jeep when it wont start  to see if its a neutral safety switch issue  or ign switch issue or what  there are to make possibilities as of right now that can cause this.
