Land Rover Repair: 2002 Disco V8 Auto Motor Cutting Out., engine management computer, crank sensor

Hello John, My Disco cut out on the highway last night, all readings are normal, the motor just died but everything else works. The engine warning light came on. After about 30 minutes it starts and runs perfectly for a few minutes and then cuts out again. This cycle then repeats itself. Is there something obvious to look for please?

The only thing that comes to mind is a crank sensor failure.  When they fail, the engine management computer can no longer tell that the motor is running, so it shuts down.  If I were to guess on the failure, that would be my choice.

However, there are other possibilities, and you might get a more positive diagnosis by connecting a land rover test system, and driving the vehicle while watching the data stream until it failed.  Then you could actually see what was happening.
