Land Rover Repair: 2004 rang rover hse., obd scanner, rover hse

Question
ok.....On my way home from a 3 hour road trip i heard a thump sound coming from underneath my truck. It sounded strange but clearly ignored it. ten minutes away from my home it happened again except this time the transmission failure light came on as well as the dsc inactive, and the engine failure light came on too. while that happened i tried to accelerate and the engine had cut off. all the electronics worked fine though. i pulled over and tried to restart the truck and it wouldn't even turn over.i popped the hood up and smelled something burning. also the air bag inactive light came on as well. sorry i made a story out of this question but i wanted to describe it as it happened. please let me no what you think.

Answer
I really don't have any idea what's wrong from that description.  But I can tell you that your Rover's transmission won't talk to a generic OBD scanner.  You're going to need a dealer or a real specialist in Land Rovers to resolve this.

Your truck uses a "maintenance free" gearbox that's shared with the BMW 740.  I've seen sudden failures in them before.

If you need to find a shop, try looking in the shop list on www.rangerovers.net

Good luck with it,
