Land Rover Repair: 96 RR wont shit out of low gear back to high gear, snow and ice, transfer case

Question
This past week we got a snow and ice storm, so i put my range rover into 4wd. A few days ago the streets were good enough to go back into high gear, but it gets stuck between high and low gear and will not go into high gear, only low. What could the problem be and how much would it be to fix?

Answer
The high to low shift is done by an electric motor on the transfer case.  The motor may have gotten sticky from age and lack of use.  It's often possible to pull the motor out and clean up and refit it, though you may need a new one.  Expect a few hours of time and a $250 motor if needed
