Land Rover Repair: discovery 1996, proprietary additives, window channels

Question
Hi I have jsut got  a 96 discovery - i did previously have one and loved it.  I can not remember how to properly select the lower gears when requied (i tow horses and get stuck in fields).  The discovery i have is 1996 2495 diesel TDi.  The other problem is the windows are slow at moving and the drivers is not moving up or down?  Is there any lubricants you would recomend to prolong the life of the engine as i love discoveries and financially hope to have this one a while?

Answer
The high/low range can only be changed with the vehicle in neutral, preferably when the vehicle is rolling at about 2 mph.

Try lubricating the slow moving window channels with a silicone based lubricant.  The drivers window could be the switch, the motor or the regulator.  There is really no way to know without stripping it down.

I don't recommend any proprietary additives, just make sure you change the oil regularly and frequently.
