Land Rover Repair: 95 range rover was slammed hard into park, rover models, stuck in park

i bought a 95 range rover from a person who said that they slammed the gear in park very hard and now its stuck in park .i smell something like wire burning under the passenger seat .the dealer said that its the module and it will cost $2,000 is there a cheaper route like a used module and can i fix it myself?

Answer
It sounds like the park solenoid is broken.  That is an anti-theft provision that prevents shifting out of park unless the key is on and the brake is depressed.  If that's your trouble, you can fit a used part, but in most Rover models you can also just remove it and lose that feature.
