Just bought a used at 127K.  It has been running well.  Today, the check engine light comes on - not sure why.  The engine seems a bit on the whine-y side, however, and when I went to fill it with gas, it won't fill more than half of the tank.

From whom did you buy the Disco?  LR dealership?  Private sale?  Used car lot?

The whine sound is hard to determine from here.  Could be the serpentine belt that is slipping, one of the pulleys the belt is wrapped around, a bearing failure on the alternator, power steering or AC pump.  This is what I would check first and the repair, if determined to be one of these suspects, should not be too expensive.

The gas tank only filling half way?  Very odd.  Your tank can hold 25 US gallons or 95 litres.  How much do you manage to get into the tank?
