Land Rover Repair: Range Rover 4.6 HSE, land rover dealer, costly exercise

Question
We have an Range Rover 4.6 HSE 1999, we have twice previously had problems with blown door lock motors only on the front doors. Now again we have the same problems, the land rover dealer in SA cannot find the problem which makes the door lock motors blow, they now say in can be the Control module in the driver door. It is an costly exercise every time the door locks blow. Do you have any ideas what it could be? Please help we are running out of ideas.

Answer
I'm not really sure what to say to that.  The only part in common to both front doors is the BECM, which sends them the signal.  I think if I had several sets of front lock motors fail, I'd look to the BECM.

I know if it sends a lock or unlock signal for too long that will cause motor failure.  That was a problem with similar door lock motors in older Jaguars.

The only problem is that a new BECm is a $1500 experiment.  I don't know how you feel about that, but that's my best suggestion
