Land Rover Repair: 1993 3.5 disco/transmission problem, discovery 3, transmission problem

hello john,my 1993  discovery 3.5lt auto,when the car has been out of use for a few hours when i drive off it is
staying in first gear and only changing up at about 4000 rpm  after driving about a mile or so,as soon as it does this it changes automatically as normal,do u have any idea what the problem is.thank you.dave

Hi Dave,

Possible causes could be kickdown cable needs adjustment, governor valve sticking or shift valves sticking.

When's the last time you flushed and replaced the filter on this tranny?   Some owners mention that shifting problems were improved after a good tranny flush and new fluids were added.

I not a tranny expert but if its one of the above, best to tow it to a local tranny shop.
