Land Rover Repair: 2000 Discovery II stuck in park, brake light switch, game car

Question
Just got home from my sons football game (car ran fine) - then had to run to the store and it wouldn't come out of park.  It is in our garage (not on a hill).  What do you think this could be?

Answer
Hi Rick,

its a common problem and usually attributed to the brake light switch found up under the dash on the brake pedal stem.  Press brake pedal and have someone confirm if brake light is working in rear.

Its been known that a blown brake light can incapacitate a Disco - just like your problem.  Check the bulbs and the bulbholder too!  Then check the fuses for brake lights.

A new brake light switch is about $35 from the dealer.

IF its not the brake light switch then you may have a park/neutral problem on the shifter and this usually requires the dealership or an independent LR mechanic to replace.

Go for the brake light switch first - its the easy fix and costs less.

Best of luck,
