Land Rover Repair: 4.0 liter v8 disco, cam bearings, crane cam

Question
hi John ,heads pressure tested.ok gaskets ok,engine block pressure tested twice [by my request]liner has been checked no sign of movement.could a leak into number six cylinder come from the inlet manifold gasket??and also find its way into the cooling system and pressurize it?or a crack in the inlet manifold itself have you ever herd of it happening?i have run out of possible causes.still the motor did need a rebuild after stripping it down the big end bearings were showing copper the mains were ok the cam bearings were scored and needed replacing the timing chain was slack 3 quarters of an inch play .This shows to me that the guy who owned this 4wd before me hardly ever changed its oil.one last question.the non standard crane cam which i am fitting does not use a retainer to hold it in place .do you think that ok like that?

Answer
My guess is that your machinist is missing something through lack of experience on these trucks.

Intake leakage would not be causing your problem.  You've probably got a liner problem the machinist did not find.

I have never used the Crane cam, so I have no comment on that.
