Land Rover Repair: land rover, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I have a 2000 land rover D. I bought it wrecked but in running condition. It will start and ideal but if you give it gas it falls on its nose. You can slightly give it gas and get it up to 50mph but it will start missing and slow down until you let off the gas. It will the pick back up. The code on a computer was that the fuel pressure regulator was at fault. I was told that the regulator, & filter were in the fuel pump, so I replaced it. This didn't help, what do I need to do? PS; I also changed the spark plugs & wires.

Answer
Hi Dave,

it could be a number of things:  Mass Air Flow sensor, the fuel injection system, the various other sensors involved in engine management.

I would advise you to seek a LR mechanic who has a Testbook analysis device.  This will help in finding the faults quickly and save you time and money as well.  Buying parts is expensive and it is a shame to swap out a perfectly good part based on guessing.  Sometimes, it seems that the dealer is doing this.

In your case, a vehicle that was classified as a 'wreck' has a questionable past that you may not know about.  Better to have a complete diagnostic performed by a professional and then you will be in a better position.

This will allow you to group your restoration according to what you actually need to have done.  The LR mechanic should be able to help you organize your project into smaller, affordable tasks.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
