Land Rover Repair: Land Rover, stock air filter, duty shocks

Question
my garage guy told me that my 94 disco is NOT full time 4 wheel, but instead on normal roads, it's only 2 wheel drive. Is this correct?
Also, i go to he desert a lot, and we do some heavy duning on sand. The only upgrade i have done so far is installing a K&N filter and putting Monore heavy duty shocks. Can you advise me on any other upgrades I can do, and are Monoroe shocks good. By the way, it's manual transmission.

Thanks,
Pamela

Answer
If your garage believes your Rover is 2 wheel drive on normal roads I suggest you look for a more qualified service person.  As your owner's manual explains, Discoveries are full time 4 wheel drive.

I suggest you return to the stock air filter because the K&N is nowhere near as good at filtering sand.

As to upgrades, the sky is the limit - sand tires, winch, all manner of gear are available.  Look at www.roversnorth.com and www.atlanticbritish.com for ideas.
