Land Rover Repair: suspension, piston ring, leaky valve

Question
Does the P38 have the same issues as the Classic when it comes to the air suspension?
Thanks

Answer
Hi,

some of the issues are there, like leaky springs, worn out compressors, leaky valve blocks etc...but those are the easy things to fix.  Springs and orings are rubber, they need replaced in 7-10 years regardless of whether it's a classic or p38.  The compressor needs a new piston ring about the same time.

However the ECU is MUCH more tolerant to minor problems than the classic, 1 bad height sensor will cause only a soft fault, not a hard fault.  You can still get home in comfort.  Leaky springs will bring up a soft fault long before a hard fault, giving you time to find/fix the problem.

So yes and no.  They have the same basic mechanical system, so the same basic mechanical problems.  The p38 has a much more robust electrical side, so you will have fewer "I hate this thing!" moments.
