Land Rover Repair: Land rover Brakes Shuddering 1996 Disco, fender benders, land rover specialist

Question
I have a 1996 Disco. Every once in a while when I'm not going too fast (under 20 mph probably) I will be coming to a stop and press on the brakes to do so. It seems that something is keeping me from pressing down too hard and the pedal shakes and makes like a ticking electronic noise (not a beep or anything) and shakes. It makes it very difficult to press down. They will still work but in a very limited capacity and it then usually goes away if I let off or pump once or twice. It's just a bit scary when I'm slowing to a stop and then have to crush down so hard to get it to stop. Doesn't happen when I'm going fast , only slow. Thus far I've avoided any fender benders but I can see this happening if I don't do something about it. Any Ideas?

Answer
Yes.  Do are describing the operation of the ABS system.  You've probably got one or more sensors sending faulty readings to the control unit.  I suggest you find a Land Rover specialist and have it checked out before you have more trouble.

Expect a repair in the $500+ range as the sensors are costly.
