Land Rover Repair: Range Rover 95 gear changing noise?, kind reply, favorable recommendation

Question
I want to buy a range rover 95 2.5 DSE from a local dealer. When I drove the car, I found the change of gear 1 to 2 making noices (sounds like from gear box). However, if i first changed the gear 1 into neutral and then to gear 2, there were not noices any more. For changes of all other gears were quite clear.

My question is : is it in general a problem of gear box? or maybe it is a simple problem of clutch that I can relatively eaily handle?

Thank you very much for your kind reply.

Best,

Alex

Answer
It sounds to me like you have a vehicle with a transmission problem.  If you're looking at used cars I'd suggest you keep looking unless the vehicle is inexpensive enough to warrant a $2500 repair.

That is not a clutch issue, but if you removed the gearbox for repair you'd probably do a clutch, too because it was out.
