Land Rover Repair: 1998 Land Rover Disco Brake Switch, land rover discovery, land rover dealership

Question
I have a 1998 Land Rover Discovery LSE with 78,000 miles.  I got
in it yesterday and it wouldn't come out of park and the brake
lights wouldn't work.

I suspect the problem is in the brak switch as I have read about
here.  My question is this:  Is this a part (Brake Switch) that I can
buy at a parts store and repair myself, or is this something that I
need to have the Land Rover dealership do. The reason I am
concerned is because I figure the part will be around $40.00, but
to tow my Land Rover to the dealership will cost over $100.00.

I am trying to avoid that.

Thank you for your time.  I hope you can help me.

Answer
The brake switch is a $20 part that you can order from Rovers North, 802 879 0032.  It's easy to install, just above the brake pedal.

Hope this helps.
