Land Rover Repair: Rear Wiper Motor 02 Disco II, salvage yard, wind noise

Question
John,

I asked you a few questions about a year ago about the 3 amigos and you were very helpful.  I got into an arguement with the dealership and land rover, turns out my 3 amigos was caused by a faulty hub which was replace out of warranty for free.

I digress.  Now my problem is with the rear wiper.  It is not working at all, with doors closed, using the washer function, nothing.  Where should I start?

I also am experiencing alot of wind noise and actual wind around my driver's door.  I think I need new door seals.  Can I do this myself?  I am very handy, but not a trained mechanic.

Thanks, Greg

Answer
Hi Greg,

thanks for the followup on the 3 amigos!  Faulty hub...strange.

Rear wiper fault...could be corroded wiring or the motor is just burnt out.  Won't be easy to replace the motor...not very much room to work with.  A DIY'er should be able to replace this motor...if it is the motor.  Use a multimeter and determine that you are at least getting voltage to the motor.  www.car-part.com may find a wiper motor from a salvage yard.  Could save you enough to buy the door seals you mentioned.

As for door seals, yes, you can do this.  I've done it on my '95.  Get the seals from the dealer.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
