Land Rover Repair: Freelander back door, vehicle battery, window switch

Question
I own a 2002 Freelander. For some darn reason the back door will not open. I have tried the key and tried to roll the window down without any luck. It makes no noise at all when either are tried. I can't open the back door due to the window not rolling down the inch or so necessary. The fuses are all good. Help me please. How can I get the back door open to get at the guts of the thing???

Answer
Hi Steve,

could be all related to the rear window.  Here's an interesting article I found on the net conerning stuck door and rear window.

The control unit needs to know the position of the rear window glass for safe operation. If you have problems with operation of the rear window it might be worth trying this procedure.

1. Disarm the anti-theft alarm system.
2. Disconnect the vehicle battery.
3. Wait 5 seconds.
4. Reconnect the vehicle battery.
5. The CCU will now drive the tail door window to the fully lowered position.
6. Turn the ignition switch to the 'ignition' position.
7. Press and hold the tail door window switch in the 'Up' position until the window has reached the fully closed position.
8. The tail door window should now be calibrated. If calibration has failed, a warning buzzer will sound.

This might help you in this problem.

Best of luck,
