Land Rover Repair: dash lights on 97 Discovery, rear storage area, fuse boxes

Question
Dear John

after the glove box light broke and short circuited, the dash lights  (only the illumination that is controled by the knurled knob rheostat) will not come on. Neither can I 'jury rig' the glove box light. It is dead as well.
All relevant fuses are fine. There is no separate listing in the manual for a fuse covering these lights.
Am I missing something?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Jim,

I've looked around on the web for a problem originating from the glove box light.  No such luck.  I believe that the lights are in series and if one goes, others soon follow.  Repair the glove box light and look for any bulbs that may have also blown out (it can happen).

The only other fuse boxes I'm aware of are in the engine compartment and the left rear storage area.

I've had so much trouble with Disco electrics.  If a rear bumper light blows, out goes the dashlights.  Corrosion within the bulbholders on the bumper and sidemarker lights can also trigger dashlights to fail.

Then there are problems with the DRL relay and diode.  Daytime Running Lights are mandatory in parst of N.America and this part is vulnerable to moisture.  Just so happens, Disco's have problems with water leaking into the footwells all around the fuses and wires.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
