Land Rover Repair: Land Rover Discovery Center Consol Lights, land rover discovery, haynes manuals

Question
Hi John

I just purchased a 1996 Land rover Discovery Se7 and I need to change the lights behind the center consol temperature controls.  Can you please tell me how to do this.  How do I get to the Lights.  What type of replacement lights do I need?  Secondly can you request a good do it yourself repair manual for this model?

Thanks

Barry

Answer
Hi Barry,

nice Disco.

The LR manuals are usually the most detailed but are very expensive.  You can find them on CD but again, could be very expensive.   I use the Haynes manual (#3016) and it is good enough for most DIY'ers.

The Haynes manual has a nice detailed section concerning the replacement of bulbs on your dashboard and behind the temp.controls.  Photos are ok but the description is much better.

You'll have to remove the ashtray, the coin holder, the cupholder and then slowly and methodically remove the retaining screws for the temp. control.

LandRover will have the bulbs for your Disco.  I have tried to find bulbs locally but with little success.

Haynes manuals are sold at almost all auto parts stores and your manual can be ordered and delivered usually within a week or so.  My advice is get the manual BEFORE attempting to separate your dashboard or temp. control components.

Best of luck,

JohnMc

NB: once you have the manual, it will be much easier to do.  My discriptions would work but I'd hate to read that you accidently broke a certain tab and now your cup holder is not working.  Believe me, I've done this.  Cup holder: $120  ouch!
