Land Rover Repair: Brake system, brake master cylinder, cylinder problem

Question
Hi John -
Have a 98 Range Rover (4.0 SE) with 110k miles, and it "growls/groans" often (not always) when at a stop and the brakes are pushed - is my brake system going out ? Any recommendations? Thanks !

Answer
Hi Bro,

yes, it depends on where the sound if coming from.  If it is from the engine compartment then it could be a brake master cylinder problem.  If it comes from a certain direction (front left, front right, rear left, rear right) You might want to determine if you have air in your brake lines.

I suggest you have someone bleed all 4 brakes to remove any air.  At the same time you could replace your brake fluid, which is a good thing to do at 100,000 miles.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
