Land Rover Repair: Disco overheating, land rover world, hat liners

Question
Follow-up on the disco overheating. Thanks for the reference article on liners.

1) Does engine over heating always mean liner failure, which seems to be the common theme?

2) When you do an overall and use top hat liners, what is expected lifespan of re-built engine?

Thanks

Answer
Overheating does not always mean liner failure, but it is distressingly common, especially on 2003-4 vehicles.  If you are in CT you may want to bring it up to us for a check.

The lifespan of a top hat linered engine is longer than the original motor.  Certainly over 100k miles.  I have never had one subsequently fail, and we have done a lot.  It's one of the things Robison Service is known for in the Land Rover world.

We have two truck in our shop now for that very job.
